(Former LAPD) COP TO CALL GIRL author NORMA JEAN ALMODOVAR forms ISWFACE to Enlighten the Public and Law Enforcement Officials through Art/Cultural Exhibitions and Website
Continuing her post-LAPD role as a champion for sex worker's rights, NORMA JEAN ALMODOVAR has formed a non-profit [501(C)(3)] foundation entitled The International Sex Worker Foundation for Art, Culture and Education (ISWFACE, pronounced "ice face").
ISWFACE houses and will exhibit over 200 works of art, done by and about sex workers (i.e. prostitutes), from the 1800's (the Wild West) to the present day. The first exhibit opens for one month in the fall of 1999 at The Gershwin Gallery in New York City.
Also under the auspices of ISWFACE is a web site (www.freedomusa.org) dedicated to disseminating accurate information about sex work to the public, academic professionals, researchers and law enforcement officials. The ISWFACE Website also hosts links to other sexually pertinent sites on the internet.
ALMODOVAR states "If others could see (sex workers) as the multi-talented, creative people many of us are, we could, perhaps, revise the stereotypical images which permits society to treat us as it does."
DR. JOYCELYN ELDERS, former Surgeon General of The United States, is the Chair of the ISWFACE Academic Advisory Board - made up of professionals who hold doctorates in diverse fields. "I feel honored to be a part of an organization that moves toward enlightenment of a society which holds onto a negative perception of sexuality..." says Dr. Elders.
The Multi-Media cultural exhibit that opens in New York City on September 15 will travel to major cities around the world, with a projected two exhibits per year. A smaller exhibit of reproductions-only will travel to cities throughout the U.S. and Canada.
